MYCAREER ERAS
For the first time in MyCAREER history, you aren’t limited to the present-day NBA. NBA 2K27 lets you begin your career during one of five historical periods, using the foundation established by MyNBA Eras and bringing it into MyCAREER. Your MyPLAYER can now become part of the moments that shaped basketball history.
Every era comes with its own rosters, rules, presentation, league structure, and gameplay characteristics designed around that specific period. The five available starting points are:
- The Magic vs. Bird Era: Begins in 1984, putting you into the NBA as Michael Jordan arrives in Chicago as a rookie.
- The Jordan Era: Begins in 1991, right as the Chicago Bulls begin their historic first three-peat.
- The Kobe Era: Begins in 2003, coinciding with the arrival of LeBron James and one of the NBA’s most celebrated draft classes.
- The LeBron Era: Begins in 2010, when the rise of superteams begins reshaping the league.
- The Steph Era: Begins in 2016, during the 3-point revolution that fundamentally changes NBA basketball.
Historical accuracy is central to each era. Rosters remain tied to the appropriate period, rookies join their correct teams, historical trades occur as they originally did, and stars remain with their respective franchises. For example, if you want to play alongside Kobe Bryant with the Los Angeles Lakers, he’ll remain there throughout the era until his retirement. The objective is to recreate how the NBA actually developed while allowing your MyPLAYER to participate in that history.
Era-Specific Presentation
Each historical period has its own distinct visual presentation. Locker rooms are designed to reflect the time period, with the oldest eras featuring details such as wooden lockers, metal chairs, and CRT televisions. Games also feature period-specific HUDs, score bugs, stat overlays, and visual filters designed to replicate the broadcast style of the era.
Era-Specific Moments
Your progression through MyCAREER Eras revolves around Eras Moments. These objectives ask you to accomplish achievements associated with each period, whether that’s breaking scoring records, putting together major winning streaks, or recreating historic accomplishments that defined the era.
Completing these challenges moves you through a 40-level reward track containing exclusive cosmetics, while also providing historical context surrounding the milestones you’re completing.
FIRE & CONCRETE
Players who choose the modern MyCAREER route will enter “Fire & Concrete,” an 11-chapter cinematic campaign that is more than twice as long as NBA 2K26. Your journey takes you from high school to the G League before ultimately reaching the NBA.
The story begins with your MyPLAYER as a highly regarded high school prospect committed to Duke. However, a serious car accident suddenly puts your basketball future in jeopardy. Two years later, the story resumes in New York City, where the newly recreated Rucker Park in 2K27 becomes your first major test.
Your cousin Cam, voiced and mocapped by Vince Staples, accompanies you from the streets of New York through your eventual NBA career and plays an important role in your life away from basketball. The story also introduces new characters while bringing back familiar faces from previous MyCAREER campaigns.
The NBA Draft & Key Games
Your performance throughout the prelude directly affects where you land in the NBA Draft. Unlike previous systems with a predetermined draft position, NBA 2K27 allows you to move up the draft board and potentially earn the No. 1 overall selection. You can either complete the prelude or skip ahead to your rookie season, and you will still have the ability to manually choose your team.
Playing through the prelude and earning the No. 1 selection gives you the most control. You can accept a selection by the team holding the top pick, such as the Washington Wizards, or bypass the normal draft outcome and select your preferred franchise.
After the prelude, “Fire & Concrete” moves into the new NBA storyline. Your rookie season continues the main narrative, and completing that first-year story unlocks Key Games during your second season.
MyCAREER features eight new Key Game sets once they become available. Each set covers approximately half a season through six games, with substantial narrative content appearing both before and after the games. Performing well earns stars and helps you progress through the 40-level MyCAREER reward track.
CO-OP MyCAREER
NBA 2K27 finally introduces a feature that players have been requesting for years: the ability to bring a friend into your MyCAREER and play through it together. This marks the first time MyCAREER supports direct co-op multiplayer.
The feature revolves around your Running Mate, Trace Miller, a custom teammate you meet while playing in the G League. Trace remains alongside you throughout your NBA career, with the story focusing on the two of you competing for starting roles and building your off-court brands together.
Building Your Running Mate
When Trace enters your story, you decide how his potential develops. You can select from nine different build templates, each inspired by the playing styles or physical profiles of NBA superstars including:

- Cade Cunningham
- Stephen Curry
- Luka Dončić
- Kevin Durant
- Anthony Edwards
- Donovan Mitchell
- Nikola Jokić
- Kawhi Leonard
The template determines Trace’s physical attributes, while gameplay allows you to earn points that can be spent improving his attributes, Badges, and overall playstyle. This allows you to create a Running Mate specifically designed around your own MyPLAYER. New Running Mate play calls also give you additional ways to attack opposing defenses together.
Hitting the Hardwood Together
Once Trace becomes part of your team, you can invite another NBA 2K27 player to join your MyCAREER. Your friend takes control of Trace using the exact build you’ve created for him. Co-op isn’t mandatory for every game, either—you can turn it on or leave it off on a game-by-game basis.
When playing together, both players can experience the MyCAREER story cutscenes. If your co-op partner leaves the game, Trace automatically returns to AI control.
Both players receive their own full VC and Season XP payouts rather than sharing rewards. Working together, producing strong statistics, and earning high teammate grades can help maximize those individual rewards.
Co-op remains completely optional in NBA 2K27. If you don’t have a friend available, Trace functions like a normal MyCAREER teammate while retaining the customized build you created for him. He is essentially a personalized teammate designed to complement your MyPLAYER.
