As many expected and wanted, the late Kobe Bryant has been announced as the NBA 2K21 Legend Edition Cover Athlete. Bryant’s appearance on NBA 2K21 makes all of the sense in the world, as a way to honor the NBA legend and global icon. Bryant and his daughter Gianna, along with seven other people, tragically died in a helicopter trash on January 26, 2020.
The Lakers legend, known as the “Black Mamba”, was an 18-time NBA All-Star and 5-time NBA champion. On and off the court, with his “Mamba Mentality”, his impact was immeasurable as he inspired millions of fans around the world.

This will be Kobe’s third time appearing on an NBA 2K cover. He was the cover athlete for NBA 2K10 as well as the NBA 2K17 Legend Edition.
The announcement concludes the last of three consecutive days of NBA 2K21 Cover Athlete reveals by 2K. The previous announcements were of Damian Lillard as the Standard Edition and Zion Williamson as the Next-Gen Edition cover athletes of NBA 2K21.
Also included with the reveal are the NBA 2K21 Pre-Order Bonuses for each edition of the game.
NBA 2K21 is set to release on September 4, 2020 for Current-Gen and Holiday 2020 for Next-Gen.
