What is Speed Boosting?
“Speed boosting” is a term coined for NBA 2K to describe using types of dribble moves that give you a “speed boost” / added acceleration out of a dribble move.

Speed Boost Requirements
- Your MyPLAYER requires a 86 or better Ball Handling rating to speed boost
- Speed Boosting in NBA 2K20 also factors in your MyPLAYER’s “Speed With Ball” rating. Speed with ball is 70% of your Speed rating and 30% Ball Handling to calculate the rating.
- Equipping the Quick First Step badge will make your dribble moves launch out more quickly.
- There are 3 tiers of launch speed. You’ll need a 86 Speed w/Ball rating for the fastest Tier 3 First Steps.

How to Speed Boost in NBA 2K20
Speed Boost (Basic)
- To speed boost to the left, press left + Right Stick to the left while pressing RT/R2
- To speed boost to the right, press right + Right Stick to the right while pressing RT/R2

- Equip and practice various dribble packages in MyCOURT to get comfortable with the right one.

- Study how the defense is playing, then use the most effective move for the right situation, examples:
- If a defender is crowding you, create space with the triple-threat step-over and jab-step.
- If a defender is slow, sprint past him
- Anticipate the defense, e.g. if a defender is going for the steal in the open court, counter with a behind the back move or crossover.
- Keep the defense off-balance by mixing up dribble moves, change of directions, speed, etc.

- Sprint: Hold R2 + Move Left Stick in any direction
- Signature Size-up Chains: Perform standing dribbling moves in rapid succession to trigger special signature size-up combo moves.
- In and Out: R2 + Move Right Stick up then quickly release
- Hesitation: Move Right Stick right then quickly release when dribbling with right hand
- Hesitation (Escape): R2 + Move Right Stick right then quickly release when dribbling with right hand.
- Crossover: Move Right Stick left then quickly release when dribbling with right hand
- Crossover to Hesitation Escape: R2 + Move Right Stick left then quickly release when dribbling with right hand.
- Between Legs Cross: Move Right Stick down left then quickly release when dribbling with right hand.
- Behind the Back: Move Right Stick down then quickly release
- Behind the Back Wrap Escape: R2 + move Right Stick then quickly release while stand dribbling.
- Stepback: R2 + Move Right Stick down then quickly release while driving
- Spin: Rotate Right Stick clockwise then quickly release when dribbling with right hand
- Half Spin: Rotate Right Stick in a quarter-circle from right to up then quickly release when dribbling with right hand.
- Hard Stop / Stutter: Tap L2 while driving for a quick change of speed to break a defender off and set up an open shot. It’s also useful for freezing them for a stop-and-go blowby to the hoop.
- Hold Off Defenders: Holding L2 allows you to use your body to shield off defenders while dribbling. Use it against trailing defenders to prevent them from getting around you, making it easier to finish at the rim.
- Triple Threat Side Jab: Move Right Stick right then quickly release (with left pivot foot established).
- Triple Threat Front Jab: Move Right Stick up right then quickly release (with left pivot foot established).
