What is NBA 2K18’s “The Road to 99”? According to this article interview called “NBA 2K18: A New Ballpark” with 2K’s Wouter Van Vugt on Australian website, Stack, the Road to 99 in NBA 2K18 is a new feature that “allows players to build their character up in every mode, including online modes.”  Stack has since taken the link down, but we are able to see a saved version and screenshot of some of the interview (below).
Here’s what was revealed:
- You can now upgrade your player and earn VC in every game mode you play with your MyPLAYER. This includes Pro-Am and MyPARK
- You can upgrade your MyPLAYER to 99 overall
If this includes NBA 2K18 badges as well, this will be very welcome news to the NBA 2K Community! A tiring and cumbersome aspect of NBA 2K17 was badge grinding in MyCAREER, a necessity to being able to be competitive online in the multiplayer modes. If the “Road to 99” feature in NBA 2K18 combined badge grinding with online modes, as the article suggests, then this is a big step in the right direction.

NBA 2K18 is also introducing the Road to 99, the overarching meta-game that rewards users for improving their MyPLAYER’s overall rating, regardless of which modes they choose to play. Featuring a unified badge system across Pro-Am, Park and their NBA journey in MyCAREER, their attributes, animations and badges all combine to define their play style on your road to a 99 overall rating.
Badge progress meters have also been confirmed in NBA 2K18!
