How to Fix Lag in NBA 2K25

Many 2K Ballers have reported lag  / delay and input lag when playing online multiplayer modes like The REC in NBA 2K25. This can be problem, especially considering how this affects shooting and your jumpshot. Usually, lag either could be blamed on “2K Servers” or something on the user’s end. The good news is there are various things you can try on your own to potentially improve lag in the game.

Here are several ways to improve lag in NBA 2K25:

Connect Directly to Router Using Ethernet Cable

Using a LAN / Ethernet cable instead of using WiFi is one of the top things you can do to improve lag.

Use a Wired Controller (Instead of Wireless)

Using a wired controller or plugging in your controller with a cord can improve input lag for NBA 2K25. Wired controllers provide a direct connection between the controller and console, which results in quicker responsiveness.

Use a Gaming Monitor or TV with Low Response Time

Using a gaming monitor or tv with a low response time can drastically improve input lag, which is especially needed if you’re a serious esports 2K gamer.

Lower Your Resolution

In your console settings, it helps improve delay if you decrease your resolution (i.e. 4K to 1080p).

For PlayStation:

  1. Go to Settings > Screen and Video
  2. Select Video Output. From here you can view your Current Video Output Information or change your video output settings.

For Xbox:

  1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
  2. Select Profile & system > Settings.
  3. Under General, select TV & display options.
  4. Choose the display and picture settings appropriate for your TV.

Restart Your Router

Restarting your router can refresh your internet connection, which may help reduce lag.

Take Other Devices Off WiFi

If you’re using a wireless connection and getting lag, you can try taking other devices (phone, iPad, etc.) off of the WiFi to improve the connection.

Be in the Most Local NBA 2K Server

2K has multiple servers so make sure you are in the one closest to you (i.e. “West” if you’re on the West Coast).

Turn Off Crossplay

Turning off crossplay can help improve lag in NBA 2K25

Check the 2K Servers

Last but not least, make sure to check the 2K Servers to see what the status of the servers are and if there are any slowdowns.
