Many NBA 2K gamers have grinded through Season 1 to unlock the Level 40 Reward just to discover that the “Badge Elevator: Instant +2 Level Boost” isn’t working. Badge Elevators are used to raise your badge by up to 2 or 3 levels and they are permanent and can’t be changed.
Once unlocked, many have been met with this message: “There are no valid badges to apply this Badge Elevator to. Badge attribute requirements must be met to apply Badge Elevators to badges.” The reason for this is because by the time you get to the Season 40 reward (given that you didn’t buy the season pass to achieve it), it’s highly likely that your first build’s badges will already be maxed out, rendering this reward useless for that build.

Unfortunately, because of how 2K set this up, the only way to “fix” the “No Valid Badges For Slot” issue and apply your Level 40 reward (if your badges are already maxed out), is to make another build and apply it to that one and subsequent builds. Rebirth makes this easier, but per usual if you know 2K, it requires more VC to max it out.
Additionally, because Badge Elevators are permanent, you could also be strategic about when to apply them to your build(s). For the long term, it could make more sense for you to wait until at least Starter 3 Rep is reached, which unlocks Cap Breakers. Cap Breakers at Starter 3 unlocks 5 free attributes boosts that raise attributes above their current caps – which may unlock additional Badges if the requirements are met.

The Season 1 Level Reward seems to be another troll job by 2K to get players to make multiple builds – and spend more on VC (shocker). Thankfully, if you were already planning on doing that, it can be a useful reward for your additional builds to level up your badges from the get go.
